The Salvation Army was so excited to move into the south-Ottawa community of Barrhaven in May 2009. In this dynamic and growing community, we had been called to a community-based ministry with the young, the seniors, and everyone in between.
On Sunday mornings, Worship Services are held at St. Andrew School on Crestway Drive and the Ministry Centre located on Jockvale Road (near Cedarview Drive) functions as office space for our Corps Officers/Pastors and Administrative Support. This Ministry Centre is also the hub of activity for our community-based programs and services, with enough meeting space and a kitchenette for some of our Bible studies and other groups. It is the perfect location to continue reaching out to the surrounding community, especially with programs for both youth and seniors.
Most people recognize the red-and-white shield of The Salvation Army as representing a social services organization that responds to disasters, feeds the homeless, and runs thrift stores. Many do not realize the underlying purpose of those efforts is rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Salvation Army Barrhaven Church strives to become the kind of church described in the Bible — a church with relevant teaching, heart-felt worship, honest friendships, constant prayer, and compassionate care for those in need. In short, we’d like to have the kind of faith that can influence and encourage the entire community, one life at a time.
As a local branch of The Salvation Army, Barrhaven Church aims to bring help, hope and salvation in the spirit of Christ to all persons in need of our services, without discrimination. Our Church is a place to build relationships with people who care, a place to belong to a community of faith, and a place to become a person of purpose.
