Over 1500 participants joined in the fun at The Salvation Army and The Running Room annual Santa Shuffle 5 Km Fun Run and 1 Km Elf Walk at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa. The Santa Shuffle is held in 38 communities across Canada raising funds for local programs.
Everyone was encouraged to wear their favourite costumes to this holiday family fundraiser! The event attracted Santa Claus’, elves, snow men and women, Christmas trees and reindeer all excited to run on the Queen Elizabeth Driveway along the Rideau Canal.
The Santa Shuffle raises funds for The Salvation Army Bethany Hope Centre which offers programs for young parents and their children related to nutrition, health, education and parenting.
A number of local businesses supported the event with music and prizes.
The crisp winter morning began with Jack Astor’s free hot bowl breakfast for all participants! Participants had their faces painted thanks to make up supplied by Melli Cosmetics! Local radio stations Boom 99.7 FM and Jump 106.9 FM were onsite adding to the festivities playing music and giving away prizes on the big wheel!
Santa Claus lead the 1 km Elf Walk and mascots including Shieldy and princesses from Glass Slipper Princess Parties greeted participants along the route, posed for photos and gave out hugs.
Spirits ran high as the 5 Km Fun Run started off with a count down and cheering from the crowd!
All participants received a unique Santa Shuffle finishers’ medal as they proudly crossed the finish line.
